Time warp

It’s probably just the time change (I allegedly gained an hour of sleep), but I’m feeling a bit strange this morning.

Last night I watched a 20-minute experimental film that poses the question, what is real? “Tuning In, Tuning Out” is a not-so-subtle commentary on how we consume information and the value of that information. What are we paying attention to? Are we tuned in, or tuned out? Smart, disturbing and amusing, the film was recently completed and is making its way into the various film/experimental film festivals.

Perhaps my choice of reading material is to blame.

I came across this list of stories on public housing and government-sponsored segregation compiled and updated by ProPublica:

Reading Guide: Segregation in America

One of the stories appeared in Harper’s Magazine and is about the dismantling of the last of Chicago’s Cabrini-Green towers in 2011 and affordable housing. It also discusses  the meaning of community and what that means for the people who inhabited the Cabrini-Green.

There is also an article and slide show by Salon on the top 10 most segregated cities. Los Angeles ranks 10; Milwaukee ranks first.

Here is the ProPublica link to all the stories:

I also started my day Saturday with a motorcylce ride through Trabuco Canyon in Orange County and scarfed down some tacos at Cook’s Corner. It might just be me, but it seems riding on the motorcycle slows time.
